About Us

The Yurt Fingerboard Story

Welcome to Yurt Fingerboards. We are a small fingerboard company based in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Like many, our fingerboarding story started with one of those low-quality, cheap plastic fingerboards made in a factory in their thousands. It sucked and broke a few weeks later. However it did its job and got us interested in the world of pro-fingerboarding with 5-ply maple, killer graphics, quality trucks and wheels - we were hooked.

With a background in woodworking and a lot of trial and error, we designed some graphics and made some of our own decks. We sold to our friends and their friends who bought our early drops. And so here we are now, offering some of our early designs out to the wider fingerboard community. Perhaps one day you will be sitting with one of our early drops and be able to say "I got one before they were well known".

Finding Our Footing (The Real Wear Drop)

However, every great company has to start somewhere. As we find the right suppliers, develop our artistic style, and figure out how to build a website, we have kept things simple. Even so, for our very first generation of decks, we wanted to deliver reliable, high-quality setups that look incredible right out of the box. That is why our debut line focuses on premium Real Wear graphics. They wear down naturally just like a real skateboard deck, giving you those authentic scratch marks as you session.

The Evolution

As we move forward, future drops will focus on our own interests and skillsets.

Firstly, we want to evolve towards creating 100% original hand drawn graphics. Full disclosure - our first drop uses a mix of hand drawn designs, a couple of AI generated images and some modified stock images. Some AI images can look great and AI definitely has its place in many fingerboard companies offerings, but as we strengthen our graphics workflow, we personally want to move towards outputting art 100% created by humans.

And secondly, our focus will be to get a wider range of moulds and shapes to offer our own high-quality split-ply decks in a bespoke setup for you.

Life is a journey and so too is Yurt Fingerboards. We hope you will get on-board early (no pun intended) and support us during our initial launch. We would love to hear your thoughts and ideas and given Yurt Fingerboards is small enough, you are likely to get a genuine response from one of the founders.
